![]() Similar to the first decade of the new millennium, during which the world witnessed the devastating outbreak of SARS caused by SARS-CoV, the beginning of the second decade was plagued by the emergence of another novel CoV, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), that has caused an outbreak of severe respiratory disease in the Middle East with secondary spread to Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America since 2012 ( 3, 9). These distinct regional characteristics have provided favorable conditions for new and rapidly mutating viruses to emerge. It is one of the busiest politico-economic centers in the world, with many unique religious and cultural practices such as the annual Hajj along with a reliance on camels for food, medicine, business, and travel in both rural and urban areas. The Middle East is a region encompassing most of western Asia and Egypt and contains 18 countries with various ethnic groups. Examples with specific geographical origins include severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and avian influenza A/H7N9 and H5N1 viruses in China, Nipah virus in Malaysia and Bangladesh, and Ebola and Marburg viruses in Africa ( 1, – 8, 329). Developing an effective camel MERS-CoV vaccine and implementing appropriate infection control measures may control the continuing epidemic.įrequent mixing of different animal species in markets in densely populated areas and human intrusions into the natural habitats of animals have facilitated the emergence of novel viruses. They should be evaluated in suitable animal models before clinical trials. Antivirals with potent in vitro activities include neutralizing monoclonal antibodies, antiviral peptides, interferons, mycophenolic acid, and lopinavir. Supportive treatment with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and dialysis is often required in patients with organ failure. Reverse transcription-PCR on respiratory and/or extrapulmonary specimens rapidly establishes diagnosis. Clinical severity may be related to MERS-CoV's ability to infect a broad range of cells with DPP4 expression, evade the host innate immune response, and induce cytokine dysregulation. The disease is especially severe in elderly men with comorbidities. Most secondary cases are related to health care-associated clusters. Some of these patients had contacted camels which shed virus and/or had positive serology. All primary cases of MERS are epidemiologically linked to the Middle East. Subsequent hunting for novel coronaviruses (CoVs) led to the discovery of two additional human and over 40 animal CoVs, including the prototype lineage C betacoronaviruses, Tylonycteris bat CoV HKU4 and Pipistrellus bat CoV HKU5 these are phylogenetically closely related to the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) CoV, which has affected more than 1,000 patients with over 35% fatality since its emergence in 2012. Hope that will see an update at some point. The source of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic was traced to wildlife market civets and ultimately to bats. Really disappointed with the no-consequences for illnesses. Get your sim an injection and presto!! You're immune, go on with your sim life. Vaccinations will be a priority for those Simmers who hate the concept of diseases and don't want that in the game. Also the actions would be your sim scratching themselves and trying to swat flies away, with the feeling of "Itchy". Or you get a vaccine from the hospital so your sims are immune. ![]() If your sim already had it, they can't get it, just like chicken pox when you were a kid. Llama-pox - where your sim is covered in spots and flies swirl around them (because you can't have a llama with out some flies!). ![]() Basically, you insinuate a disease with a playful twist like all the rest of the taboo themes in a Sims game. It's not a hookah it's a "Bubble Blower". It's not called alcohol it's called "juice". It's not even called intercourse it's called "woohoo". I doubt the OP thought of that and this is The Sims. Why are people assuming the worst? Of course not cancer jeezy-creezy folks.
